I had the privilege of interviewing David Hurlston and Susan Van Wyk from the National Gallery of Victoria last Friday.
David is the curator for an exhibition on that the moment called Shifting Gears. The exhibition looks at cars over the last century as an object of design. I know nothing about cars, but I was given a personal tour of the exhibition by David, and now I know a little bit more. It was fascinating.

Susan is the curator for an exhibition opening April 25th called  Follow the Flag
Australian Artists at War 1914–45.
This exhibition shows the work the work of Australian artists who drew on their experiences of war between 1914 and 1945. There were some extremely poignant stories connected to some of the art works.

Both interviews are for Arts Weekly, on 3MBS (103,5 fm) which runs from 10am to 11am.

ECCLECTIC SYNERGY

Ecclectic Synergy explores what makes us human.is it our physical form, our emotions, our achievements? We spend so much time striving and creating monumental structures to validate our humanity, which are often truly beautiful, and certainly worthy and remarkable shows of ingenuity. But sometimes its just a moment of simple reflection, when we have no greater aspiration than to simply be, that we are at our most connected.

“I try to capture a simple honesty within a subject. People change and evolve throughout their lives – behaviours, interests, and priorities – the essence of whom we are never changes, however, and that’s what I love to portray.”

I'm having an exhibition at G3, a gallery in Parkdale from April 1st to April 30th. Opening night is April 1st and I would be delighted for you to come. Otherwise come later and let me know, so I can meet you there. The gallery is small and I love its intimate feel. The works are part of a bigger collection and the exhibition is called Ecclectic Synergy.

I have an exhibition coming up Feb 26th at G3 in Parkdale. I'm very excited about it and saw the gallery when Jo Linsdell exhibited there. I love its intimate feel and the fact that it's local and connected to my community. I'll have a selection from the work I've been doing recently. And it's my birthday as well so a real celebration (day after, but close enough) Put it in your diaries as I'd love to celebrate with you.

I had the privilege of interviewing Wayne Crothers, curator for NGV Asian Collection for 'Arts Weekly', 3MBS Fine Music - Melbourne on Tuesday (103.5 in Melbourne) yesterday. He was fascinating to talk to and gave a wonderful insight to Takahiro Iwasaki's Reflection Model (Itsukushima), commissioned by National Gallery of Victoria

The Toyota community Spirit Sculpture exhibition will be on till March next year. I have a piece in it which was my first sculpture (in my adult life at least) and most certainly not my last. The judge was William Kelly OAM an wonderful artist and he spoke brilliantly. He said that when he short listed he came down to 20, and then he trimmed the list again and came down to 10... till he came up with the winner.
I was there with Stewart and his mother Sandra and we were about to leave when i thought I would pause and introduce myself to the judge.
I'm so pleased I did because he told me that my piece was in his final 10. When I was younger I would never have dreamed of introducing myself. The great thing about getting older is that you simply do far more what you want and if you think someone will be interesting....like William Kelly....then you say hi.
